Perfect Hideout, der Titel dieses Thrillers stellt sich für die Protagonisten des Filmes als entschieden ironisch heraus: Nach einem katastrophal daneben gegangenen Raubüberfall verschatzen sich Celia und Nick im Haus von Victor (Billy Zane). Der Besitzer wird als Geisel genommen, das Haus von der Polizei umstellt. Als ob das Verbrecherpärchen nicht schon Probleme genug hätte, stellt sich bald heraus, dass es sich bei Victor um einen waschechten Serienmörder handelt.

Nick and Celia have big dreams. They want to build a better, more beautiful life together. In order to raise money, Nick makes a fatal mistake. When he tries to rob a gas station, everything that could possibly go wrong goes wrong. In the heat of the moment, Nick shoots a young policeman trying to stop him. On their escape from the police they come across a mansion, while they are followed closely by a special unit which was set on them. Completely overwhelmed with the situation, Nick takes the owner of the property hostage. From the frying pan into the fire. The homeowner turns out to be an even bigger threat than the police, who have gathered in front of the house.
